Azhar Ali focused on channelling Pakistan pressure into positive performance

Pakistan captain Azhar Ali is hoping his team can channel the "hurt" and "pressure" to hit back against England and earn a drawn one-day international series in Dubai.

The hosts took a 1-0 lead in Abu Dhabi, but have since lost the next two matches - there and in Sharjah - so must win at the Dubai International Stadium on Friday to avoid series defeat.

Azhar admits Pakistan contributed to their own downfall on the way to a six-wicket defeat two days ago, when they lost six wickets for 29 runs and then had no answer to an unbroken century stand between James Taylor and Jos Buttler as England went 2-1 up with one to play.

Pakistan may have Yasir Shah available again after his knee niggle but could rely instead on his replacement Zafar Gohar, the left-arm spinner who bowled especially well on debut.

Either way, Azhar expects them to put two moderate batting performances behind them - especially the mistakes of Sharjah, which included three run-outs.

He cited Pakistan's success in ensuring qualification for the Champions Trophy, with a 3-2 series success against Sri Lanka in July, as evidence they can handle tough times.

He said: "We had the pressure of qualifying for the Champions Trophy when we were playing against Sri Lanka, but the players responded very well.

"There is pressure . (but) if you take that as positive . and use all your abilities then there is no doubt you can do it."

The stakes are perhaps not quite so high here, but the situation is again critical.

"It's a must-win game for us, and it won't be easy - because England played well in the last two games," said Azhar.

"But we all realise the importance of this game . and I'm confident that if we play to our ability then we can definitely win and level the series."

Pakistan's performances have been very patchy over the past week.

Their captain added: "We have been making mistakes, so we have to overcome that . we did not play to our potential.

"I think all of us were hurt . because it was in our hands.

"Obviously you don't want run-outs - but sometimes it happens. It was one of those days when the calling was not good.

"It is an area of concern, but it's not a big problem that we cannot solve."

Azhar himself has failed to build on two handy starts at the top of the order.

"I am trying my best and was feeling good in the last game, middling the ball well. I just hope I can convert (this time)."
