Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been handed a team fine for comments relating to team-mate Matthew Wade.
Maxwell landed himself in hot water on Thursday when he expressed disappointment about batting below the wicketkeeper for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield.
"I think probably batting below the wicketkeeper is also a bit painful," Maxwell said. "The wicketkeeper should be batting at seven unless you're trying to squeeze an extra bowler into your line-up."
Australia captain Steve Smith said on Saturday that was enough to earn Maxwell an undisclosed fine.
"Everyone was disappointed in his comments," Smith said in a press conference. "I've expressed that to him myself and spoken to the team.
"One of our values is respect and having respect for your team-mates, opposition, fans and media.
"I thought what he said was very disrespectful to a team-mate and his Victorian captain.
"The leadership group got together and decided to fine Glenn. We thought that was a sufficient punishment."
Smith indicated the situation had been an unwelcome distraction from preparations for Sunday's opening match of the one-day series against New Zealand, but said it was time to move forward.
"Wade was obviously pretty disappointed like all the other players," he said. "I've talked about respect for your team-mates and particularly for the captain of your state. He was disappointed, but we've moved on from that and now the focus is on tomorrow and hopefully starting the series well.
"(Maxwell) is available for selection and the selectors will weigh up what we think is the best team.
"I think he was a little bit shattered by what he said. I don't think he thought the words came out the way they actually did, but we've moved on from that now. We've obviously fined him, expressed our disappointment and now we're moving on and the focus is on the game tomorrow."
