Lancashire cricket director and head coach Ashley Giles has signed a new deal that will keep him at Emirates Old Trafford until at least the end of 2018.

The former England one-day coach was appointed in October 2014 and enjoyed success in his first season in charge, winning the NatWest T20 Blast and leading the Red Rose county back to County Championship Division One.

First-team coach Glen Chapple and second XI coach Mark Chilton have also extended their contracts.

Giles said: "I'm delighted that we've been offered the opportunity to commit our futures to the club until the end of 2018.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed my first 18 months at Lancashire and feel extremely lucky to have such a strong coaching team around me.

"We still have a lot of work to do with this young and exciting group of players and we all look forward to bringing future success to the club."

Lancashire get their County Championship season under way against Nottinghamshire on Sunday.
