Struggling Hampshire have signed former Nottinghamshire bowler Andy Carter in a bid to revive their flagging campaign.

The 27-year-old spent seven years at Trent Bridge before joining Derbyshire last September, but left the club after by mutual consent last week having made only 16 appearances.

Hampshire's bowling stocks have been depleted by long-term injuries to Fidel Edwards, Reece Topley and Chris Wood this season and the south coast side are currently bottom of Specsavers County Championship Division One.

Giles White, Hampshire's director of cricket, said: " Our bowling has been impacted by injury this season and it's important that we look to strengthen our options at a busy point in the calendar.

"Andy has a strong record of taking wickets in first-class cricket, and his height and power offer our bowling attack a different ingredient."
