Haye ready to watch Bellew fight for first time

David Haye plans to return to the gym on Friday evening, where he will undergo a training session before watching back last week's fight with Tony Bellew.

The heavyweight, 36, has already insisted he will not retire, despite suffering the third defeat of his career and a ruptured right Achilles from which he will take at least six months to recover.

He has targeted a return to the ring, with a rematch with Bellew his favoured option, and to that end will train his upper body until his injury has healed enough for him to undertake more balanced exercise.

"The fact they're saying, 'Six to nine months, you can box again', I'm thinking, 'Okay, December looks good (for a ring return)'," Haye said. "I'm working out training in my mind, where I'm going to be, my rehabilitation.

"I'm already working. I'm training (on Friday night), I'm going to the gym later on, my coach (Shane McGuigan) is coming down to do some training - upper body stuff to make sure everything's there."

Haye's trainer Shane McGuigan was criticised for allowing Haye to continue to fight until the 11th round at London's O2 Arena, despite having suffered such a severe injury. The heavyweight, however, insists he retains full confidence in those around him.

"People don't realise how hard I train," he said. "I might not look like it, but Shane McGuigan and the team, we really work hard. I can't think of another fighter who trains like I do.

"I haven't watched it back. I was going to watch it (on Friday) at some stage, with Shane. He's been training his other fighters. I wanted to watch it with him for the first time and go through it."
