George Groves is poised to fly to Denmark to help Mikkel Kessler prepare for his unification fight with Carl Froch. The 25-year-old is a stable-mate of Froch's under promoter Eddie Hearn, but he has repeatedly called for a fight against the IBF champion and now looks likely to act as a sparring partner for Kessler ahead of the May 25 bout in London.

Kessler's coach, Jimmy Montoya, revealed that discussions are going and Groves, who holds the Commonwealth strap, is expected at the Copenhagen camp on Thursday.

Montoya said: 'We hope to have him here for sparring with us. We want George here because it would be really good quality sparring. We have invited him for April 28.

'I think George is the right kind of boxer who would give Mikkel two weeks of the right kind of sparring. I want to get him over because I want to make sure Mikkel is in the best possible shape and can handle anything.'

Montoya added: 'George has got a good style of boxing. We are trying to close the deal for him to come over. When we get the tickets and he is here, that's when we can say he is here because I have been in boxing a long time and you never know what will happen. So many things happen in boxing at the last minute.'

George Groves is scheduled to face Noe Gonzalez Alcoba on May 25 at the O2 Arena, on the Froch-Kessler undercard.
