Commonwealth Games gold medallist Anthony Fowler has signed a promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing and will make his professional debut next month.

Fowler went all the way in the middleweight division in Glasgow three years ago and was named as the Team GB boxing captain at Rio 2016, but he was beaten in the first round.

The 26-year-old, a cousin of former Liverpool and England striker Robbie, will now compete in the paid ranks, where he will make his bow on the Kell Brook-Errol Spence undercard at Bramall Lane on May 27.

"I think I am going to shine as a pro and my style is great for it," Fowler said. "As long as I keep my head down and live the life, I don't see any reason why I won't become a world champion."
